Hi German editors, let's talk :)[Bearbeiten]

Hello!

I haven't talked with the editors of the German wiki in about 3 years now and I wanted to provide a place where all editors can communicate their idea,s requests or comments about the German wiki. Feel free to engage here or point me in the direction of where the discussion can happen, bearing in mind that I cannot speak German :)

On behalf of ArenaNet, I want to thank each and everyone of you! --Stephane Lo Presti talk 23:39, 20. Okt. 2016 (CEST)

[Falls jemand gerne auf Deutsch schreiben möchte, ich kann gerne die Beiträge entsprechend übersetzen] / [I will provide translations in case someone would like to write in german] Hello Stéphane. I really have nothing much to add, except "when are we getting the new servers?" ;) --Think 17:46, 21. Okt. 2016 (CEST)
Thanks Think :) If you mean new Semantic/MediaWiki software, we're going to start the official test on the non-EN wikis today! So I'd say within a few weeks, it should be live --Stephane Lo Presti talk 18:31, 21. Okt. 2016 (CEST)
So here you´d like to hear things I´d like to see in/for the de-Wiki? Then 1. need more official concept arts of maps/creatures etc all around tyria to show in articles. 2. I´d like to see more buttons in the edit bar for things i use very often ... be it "[[]]" or "{{}}" stuff etc. :3 --Daskan (Diskussion) 12:26, 22. Okt. 2016 (CEST)
1) It's not something we usually release to the public but if there are specific needs, let me know here and I can investigate; 2) I believe that this is something that the wiki admins can do? In any case, it's not something that we'd be doing without the community of this wiki asking us (so a consensus was reached, rather than individual editors asking us). --Stephane Lo Presti talk 20:52, 24. Okt. 2016 (CEST)
Yes, we can add custom icons to the wiki, and users can even add their own ones using their user js: see mw:Manual:Custom edit buttons :) --Think 22:48, 24. Okt. 2016 (CEST)
Ok, to 2.: ill look into that way ... to 1.: I cant say any specific ... but some pictures/arts that would "represent" each Race/City/Map etc.(not just loading screens!) is what i´m looking for! 1 Picture to each would totaly be ok! What come in mind too is a way to get to Icon from the game ... the only way atm. I know is to extract gw2.dat with a tool that crashes a lot and even then finding the right icons is f**king hard to do :*. Specialy when it come to icon that are shown above NPC's, stuff you cant take from the [API] ... --Daskan (Diskussion) 18:45, 29. Okt. 2016 (CEST)
Language :) I shared some GW2 icons with the English wiki, but I also recently discovered that we have higher quality version of these icons (see [:en:File:Plate_of_Island_Pudding.png]) so I'm going to try to get as much of those as I can. I'll see what I can do for concept art but I'm not putting too much hope into it. --Stephane Lo Presti talk 17:29, 31. Okt. 2016 (CET)
So after talking to various people here, it turns out that getting the icons is not going to be a pain-free thing to do, it has a non-significant cost. I'll have to investigate if there are better ways. In the meantime if there are specific icons (individual ones, not by theme) that this wiki is looking for, let me know. --Stephane Lo Presti talk 17:51, 3. Nov. 2016 (CET)
3.: I´d like to see/have a page on which we are able to see all/a lot of Word-Changes Made in Texts. That way it would be muuuuch easier for us to see where we have to make changes/fixes ... Items are kinda easy to check via API .. but NSC Texts are not. 4.: I´d like to have access to the Testserver with "admin" (cheat) rights, for researches and stuff like this =) --Daskan (Diskussion) 14:34, 4. Nov. 2016 (CET)
Hi! Regarding 3: What are "Word-Changes Made in Texts" and "NSC Texts"? Regarding 4: could you please work via the wiki admins for this request? Thanks --Stephane Lo Presti talk 17:11, 4. Nov. 2016 (CET)
to 3. , uhm sometimes players find mistakes in Dialoges, these are reported and then changed , but these changes are not shown in the PatchNotes ... --Daskan (Diskussion) 17:49, 4. Nov. 2016 (CET)
I don't think that these will ever end up in the Release notes, because there are so many changes with each release that it's simply impossible to track each and every one of them. --Stephane Lo Presti talk 17:56, 4. Nov. 2016 (CET)
Dont they have some intern "patchnotes" ? A doc where they write all the little changes they did, like changing some dialogs!? To 4. Wiki Admins have access to a Testserver? I mean a Game-Testserver, not like a wiki-software-testserver!!?? 5. Events ... i´d like to see some events! I think there was already some kind of Event in the Past, where people who made an article or added sth to a article entered the event. Sth that came from ANet! In the english wiki I saw someone doing somekind of event for himself, other participated and he sent them some gold in exchange, but i´d like to see this kind of stuff from ANet themself to encourage for more wiki work! Prices like Gold/Gems/Pre's or Skins. :)--Daskan (Diskussion) 18:23, 4. Nov. 2016 (CET)
I'm not going to elaborate on the topic of patchnotes but suffice it to say that it's much more complex than it looks. I'd want request for test servers to be managed by each wiki, so that's why I suggested talking to the admins of this particular wiki (this is how it's handled with all wikis). I'm already working on an idea similar to Wiki of Gold from the non-English wiki and I'll let everybody know if and when I have news. --Stephane Lo Presti talk 01:44, 5. Nov. 2016 (CET)

(Reset indent) As part of my weekly routine, I store statistics of all our wikis, including the ones from the Special:Statistics page. I've noticed that a lot of articles and pages have been removed from the German wiki over the last few weeks. Is there an ongoing project that would explain theis significant amount of deletion? I'm just asking so that I can understand correctly what these numbers mean. As usual, the community maintains this content! --Stephane Lo Presti talk 20:52, 24. Okt. 2016 (CEST)

Judging from the delete log, a lot of deletions were actually pages about items that got renamed (<insert localization inconsistency rant here>) and left a remnant when they got moved. These kinds of mass deletions are done irregularly, Hraun has been doing that for some time. We didn't change any of our policies, so no real content should have been removed. --Think 22:46, 24. Thanks for the clarification Think :) --Stephane Lo Presti talk 23:06, 24. Okt. 2016 (CEST)

German Localisation[Bearbeiten]

Hi Stéphane, I have a big question regarding the german localisation. The translation in End of Dragons was much worse than before. Many things got translated without (the program?) knowing the conext and in parts it is very confusing. Prominent example is "crane" which has different meanings in english. The bird creatures "crane" (in german "Kranich") were translated to the industrial machine "crane" (in german "Kran"). Another well known example is "pet". It can mean "pet" as the animal partner of rangers ("Tiergefährte" in german) or "to pet" ("streicheln" in german) which gets confused in many parts of the game. In english there are also two factions called "Wardens". Once the sylvari protecting the grove and also the race found in echovald forest. In german both are translated to "Hainhüter", which means "Grove protectors"... The warden race were originally translated to "Aufseher" in the first game. There are many more problems like these (in other languages too). The official forum localisation thread is filled with entries from players but there are no answers from ArenaNet for nearly 2 years. Can we expect there will be more translation error fixes or will is stay as it is. We as the wiki need to know how to create the articles. Regards.--Aylia (Diskussion) 12:41, 31. Jan. 2023 (CET)
